A number of developments on the International scene lately so it is important that I bring our readers up to date with what’s been happening…
The world of correspondence chess has a new champion! Tunc Hamarat of Austria has become the 16th World Champion, replacing Gert Timmerman of the Netherlands. A recent article on Tunc Hamarat is available at [article] . Tunc is also a regular at contributing in various chess discussions.
Leading scores are as follows: Hamarat 11/15 (1), Maliangkay (NED) 10/16, Soltau (GER) 10/16, Pfretzschner (GER) 9.5/16, Bang (DEN) 9/16. GM Rudolf Maliangkay was my guest analyst in ACCQ November 1994 p.132 when he contributed two games from his ICCF semi-final XIX. He mentioned to me then that his goal was the final of the World Championship, so it’s great to see him finish so well.
