Each member is given a certain numerical score called a rating. This serves to indicate playing strength. Members are divided into seven classes, ranging from Class 1 (a rating of 2200 and above) to Class 7 (below 945). The method used to calculate ratings is based on the Elo Rating System used by most chess organisations in the world. According to their ratings, members are deemed to be in classes as follows:
| Class1 | 2200 and above |
| Class 2 | 1950 - 2195 |
| Class 3 | 1700 - 1945 |
| Class 4 | 1450 - 1695 |
| Class 5 | 1200 - 1445 |
| Class 6 | 950 - 1195 |
| Class 7 | 700 - 945 |
