14 year old Justin Tan of Sydney is the new Australian junior champion; he completed the eleven-round event undefeated, conceding only four draws. The win caps off an impressive twelve months - last year he won the under 14 title then went on to win the City of Sydney junior championship and finish equal tenth in the World Under 14 in Spain. 12 year old Zong-Yuan Zhao of Coffs Harbour finished a half-point behind Tan to earn the under 16 title, with Shervin Rafizadeh of Canberra taking the under 14 title on 8/11. Catherine Lip of Sydney was also undefeated in winning the girls championship with 10/11. The separate under 12 events were won by Gareth Oliver of Canberra with 7/9 and Michelle Lee of Victoria with a perfect 9/9. Queensland's best were Kateryna Moshnenko (Townsville) 7/11 and
Matthew Sonter (Gold Coast) 6 in the under 18 events.
