Black to play and win

Problem No 1844: 1..Bd3 2.a4 Bxe2+ 3.Qxe2 Rg1+ 0-1

Six rounds into the Australian Junior Championship as we go to print, number eight seed Denis Bourmistrov of Victoria was playing the tournament of his life. He shared the lead with hot favourite Zong-Yuan Zhao of NSW, each with five wins and a draw. A half-point behind them were Justin Tan and Tomek Rej, both of NSW. Last year's winner, Queenslander David Smerdon, is not defending his title; our best performers were Matthew Sonter, Nathan Anderson and Chris Page, all on 3. Catherine Lip of Sydney led the Girls Championship on 5, a point clear from Juanita Lauer-Smith of Adelaide; Ukraine-born Kateryna Moshnenko of Townsville was a further point away in her first title event in Australia.
