This is a special one-off issue to briefly announce the results of the 2010 Australian Championship and ACF Medal winners. More information on these and other matters will be included in the first normal newsletter of 2010 (see Next Issues below).

 

Australian Championship

 

The event was held at Norths, Cammeray, NSW from 2 to 13 January 2010. For details see link

 

GM Zong-Yuan Zhao (NSW) won with 10/11 (nine wins and two draws) from IM George Xie (NSW) 10, GM Gawain Jones (Eng) 7.5 and GM Daryl Johansen (Vic).

 

Other section winners were

 

Major: David Garner (Eng) and Jason Hu (NSW) 9/11. Kevin Sheldrick (SA), Johny Bolens (NSW), Paul Broekhuyse (NSW) and Alex Stahnke (Qld) 8.

 

Minor: Mark Stokes (Qld) 9. Tim Li (NSW) and Axel Stahnke (Qld) 8.

 

Norths Classic: Joshua Dalton (Vic) 5.5/7. Peter Yang (NSW), Clive Lane (NSW) and Elliott Renzies (Vic) 5.

 

Australian Lightning Championship

 

This tournament was held on the rest day, 6 January. GM Gawain Jones (Eng) won the tournament with 9.5/11 from Junta Ikeda (ACT) and Moulthun Ly (Qld) 9.

 

GM Jones was ineligible for the title which was won by Junta Ikeda in a play-off match.

 

ACF Medals

 

Medal winners were announced at the closing ceremony, They were

 

Steiner Medal (Player of the Year): GM David Smerdon (ACT)

 

Arlauskas Medal (Junior Player of the Year): FM Bobby Cheng (Vic).

 

Koshnitsky Medal (Administration): Allan Wright (NSW).

 

Australian Junior Championships

 

This event is in progress in Hobart, Tasmania. For details see link
